The Green Ray is a 1986 film made by French filmmaker, Eric Rohmer. An innovative member of the French New Wave, Rohmer has long been fascinated with moral questions and philosophy. His films often portray characters in turmoil, who are torn between what they want and what they believe. The Green Ray is about a secretary, Delphine, who is faced with a vacation on her own and is overwhelmed by loneliness. The film is best described as a philosophical comedy, as Delphine is faced with the absurdity of her life decisions, as circumstances consistently challenge her beliefs and desires.
Beyond the Film Festival is a Montreal based show on CUTV that focuses on bringing attention to cinema and visual culture that subverts traditional expectations and offers an alternative to the mainstream.
