In this video I show you the Winsor and Newton Iridescent watercolour medium. I swatch the iridescent medium mixed in with watercolours and also layered over the top of dried watercolour.
The iridescent medium is a really good alternative to buying an entire metallic or pearlescent watercolour set, as it only cost me £8. If you're unsure of whether or not you would like metallics watercolours, give this a try.
I personally preferred the iridescent watercolour medium mixed in with my watercolours opposed to layering on top, as it gave a much more subtle finish. Once I've swatched the medium, I then work on a mini geode to experiment with the iridescent watercolour mediums. I used a wet in wet method to create my geode painting and mixed the iridescent medium into the paints as well as layering on top. I also used a masking fluid, to ensure a nice clean centre to my geode. I use my Paul Rubens for the swatching and the geode painting.
