What are the five Cs of creating an awesome onboarding experience?
Hi, welcome to the Let's Talk Talent channel where we discuss the world of HR and talent management. We're here to help you unlock the potential in your people.
When we think about creating an awesome onboarding experience, at Let's Talk Talent we like to distil it down to five Cs.
The first is care: this is your golden thread. This is why people work for you and how you make them feel cared for, ultimately.
The second is compliance: now, this is the nuts and bolts, ultimately, the real rules, the policies, the procedures, the things that if you're working in a regulated environment, you need people to adhere to.
So the third is clarification: now, that is clarification of what you've sold that person in terms of their role, and what exactly you want them to do. So that is thinking about their goals and their objectives for the next three, six... or even a year. So be really sure that you clarify exactly what you want that person to do, and how you want them to do it.
The fourth is connection: so how are you enabling new joiners to understand what it means to work in your business and connect them with key people? So don't just flood them with meetings upon meetings, give people an opportunity to connect informally and formally. Create communities of practice, ultimately, that drive those connections deeper into that business.
And the fifth is culture. And this is: aligning why you work for an organisation – so your purpose and your passion – with what you want people to do and how you want them to do it.
The five Cs are really important when you're building any onboarding experience. They also enable you to audit where you are, and think about where you might want to dial up or even dial down some of those elements.
So if you want to talk about it in more detail, I'd love to chat to you. Thank you.
