This is my fifth episode of a video series I've been wanting to do called: Will it Work?
In this series I take certain Sony camcorders (VX1000, VX2000, VX2100, VX700, PD150, PD170, PD100, PDX10, TRV900, TRV950) that I purchase from ebay, craigslist, offer up, etc that are listed as parts/not-working and test to see if in fact that maybe they do actually work, or might function well enough to be usable.
These camcorders have always held a very special place in my heart. Coming from a skateboard background these are the camcorders that I would always see the filmers using in the videos but I could never afford in the late 90's to early 2000's. So now in 2022 these camcorders have become semi-affordable, at least compared to what they used to cost. It's been cool to be able to obtain some of these camcorders, clean them up, fix some issues and pass along to people that still want to use this style of camcorder.
In this episode specific, @AMJProductions and I are going to test out a PD170 that I got off of ebay for a final price of $113.55. The seller had this item listed as parts/not working/untested for $100.00 or best offer and $15.00 for shipping. I offered the seller $90.00 and they accepted the price. I have a suspicion that this camcorder will in fact work well enough to be used in this day and age, but we will see!
