Part 6!! This video is more of a demonstration on the general uses of a MIDI controller. You don't need to have a Midi controller to produce music but it can make it more fun and lets you interact with your tracks in a new way. The tips here are just to show you what kind of things you can do to implement a controller in to your work flow.
quick troubleshooting:
* MAKE SURE YOUR CONTROLLER IS PLUGGED IN BEFORE YOU OPEN ABLETON
** TO CONNECT THE CONTROLLER: Ctrl+ ' , ' or Options, Preferences, MIDI Sync will open the menu to choose your control surface. if your controller isnt listed in the list you can substitue with another controller. I have a Acorn Masterkey 49 and i set it to the MPK61. refer to 9:14 to see the preferences menu.\
*** TO GET RID OF THE PIANO SOUND open preferences again, and under the MIDI Ports section. set the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth to OFF as shown at 8:49
Mapping to Midi Controller 1:00
To map parameters to your Midi Controller push Ctrl+M to open the MIDI Mapping option. Click the parameter you want to manipulate, and then move the physical input on your controller, Slider, Knob, Button. Keep an eye out for the little Hand icon, whatever device you want to manipulate needs to have the hand icon on it to affect it.
Mapping Options 3:14
You can also turn ON and OFF effects by clicking the MAP options above the macro knobs. Click the Parameter and under the Macro knob you want to map it to, click Map. You can adjust the Minimum and Maximum ranges in the option menu in the top left to give you more control over the parameter. To set it ON, adjust the range which the controller is ON. So that when you move the knob out of that range it will turn off.
This tutorial series is almost done now, I will be uploading the improvised session video later in the week. Its not much of a tutorial but its just to show how you may go about putting the core ideas of what you want from the Session View down in to an arrangement you can finalize.
I will be giving away the song from the tutorial for free on Soundcloud and also the Project file as a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported and subscribed to these videos. Its been a LOT of fun doing these and getting to talk with some of you has been awesome. Follow me for updates as i will be doing more videos, giveaways and streams in the FUTURE!!
