Should you film videos vertically or horizontally? In spite of short form 9x16 videos taking over the internet, here is why I think that videographers and filmmakers shouldn’t shoot vertical videos.

In this video, I talk about my rationale for filming all of my content for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok horizontally in a 16x9 aspect ratio. Specifically, I discuss under what conditions you should film horizontally and when you should film vertically, some of the most prevalent issues with filming vertical video, and why for myself it makes sense to film almost solely horizontally and resize my footage to a vertical format as needed. Hopefully this video helps you understand the pros and cons of filming vertically so that you can make the best decisions for your specific style of videography.
