In this video John E. Grant, the Agile Attorney, Introduces the Agile Attorney Podcast and the four principles of an Agile legal practice.

1️⃣ Focus on delivering value. Specifically customer value.

Agile, like its cousins Lean and Design Thinking, requires a strong focus on understanding value from your client’s perspective. For nearly everything you do, you should be able to articulate why it is good for your client and why they should care.

2️⃣ Empower the whole team.

Even if you are a true solo, you still have a team. Empowering that team means inviting and respecting the individual perspectives of your team members, and it means trusting them to deliver quality work using their personal strengths, even if they don’t necessarily get there the same way that you would do it.

3️⃣ Optimize for quality

One of the most critical things I’ve learned in my years of coaching Agile is that quality improvement and process improvement are the same thing. When your team adopts a customer-focused quality standard, you will orient your activities around that shared understanding of what quality looks like. As a result, you will naturally minimize the busy work that has only a loose correlation to delivering quality

4️⃣ Improve, regularly, with feedback

Feedback - especially customer feedback - is essential for improving things. Too many lawyers (and other professionals) just go on feel. But you can’t know if your improvement worked, or even if you’re improving the right things, unless you design feedback loops as part of your overall process.
