I was a late add-on to this trip, and glad I joined up with these guys. I had climbed with Jason, in the blue jacket, before, but had never met Jared and Tamra until they walked into the boulder field at the base of Gannett. And Tiller. I had no idea they were bringing a dog. He was an absolute trooper. They had him harnessed on the steeper sections; not sure how well that conveys in the video.

I haven't seen a lot of Milky Way stuff out at Gannett, and considering the approach, I can understand why. So, I wanted to hike in my DSLR, so if nothing else, I could give it a try. Lugging the extra weight, I knew I'd be slower, so we headed in a couple of days ahead of them, even before their planes landed in Denver. We. because I had road tripped out there with my new friend Joe, but he was unable to complete the approach and turned back on day two - it's a grueling approach, and I can't blame him - honestly, turning back sounded pretty good. He went on to do a bunch of shorter loops while the rest of us were at Gannett, staying in touch with me via Garmin InReach.

For Jared, this was his 50th state high point. He had made at least 3 previous attempts at Gannett without getting to the top of the peak. Three. It really puts this peak into context when you realize what great shape he and his friends are, and that they bailed three times before.

Jason and I went on to climb to the top of Grand Teton on this same trip, before he had to head back home.

And Joe and I went on to do some more hiking and climbing in the southern Winds and RMNP after that.
