You should always create a complex password when setting up any local WiFi network. Doing so will make your network more secure since it will decrease the chances of someone brute forcing their way in. The downside here is that complex passwords can be difficult to remember and even more difficult to share.
So in today's video I want to show you how to view your saved WiFi passwords on Android 12 or later. This will work on smartphones and tablets that have a more stock OEM firmware, like Google Pixel phones, but I can also show you how to do this on Samsung Galaxy devices as well.
The first thing you'll need to do is to open up the Settings application. From here, look for the Network & Internet option, and then select Internet. Here, you'll find a list of all the WiFi networks near you, with the saved ones appearing right toward the top.
Let's tap the Gear Icon next to the saved WiFi network that you are wanting to view the password for.
You'll be shown various details about this network here, with the option to share it easily via a QR code.
So let's tap the Share option and then verify that we are the one who is registered with this device.
You should now be given a QR code that has embedded the SSID as the password within the QR code. And if your smartphone or tablet is running a version of Android that is close to stock, like I have here on the Pixel 7 Pro, then you'll also be shown the password right under this QR code here.
On some devices, you'll even be given a Nearby button so you can quickly share this network with someone close by.
Now, what if you have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet? We can go through the same process as we did here, but we have a few additional steps required at the end. This is because Samsung's OneUI does not display the WiFi network password directly on the screen. At least not as of recording this video.
So again, we need to open up the Settings application. Then tap the Connections option from the top of this list.
Now let's select WiFi and then find the saved WiFi network from this list.
Again, we're going to tap the Gear Icon next to the network we need the password for. But this time we need to tap the QR Code button down here at the bottom.
From here, we're able to save the image of this QR code, which then needs to be decoded.
There are many websites out there that offer this feature, but we can also decode the QR Code directly on the device without needing to upload anything.
We just need to download a QR Code Reader from the Google Play Store. I used this one here, from developer TeaCapps, but if you have a favorite one then that should work as well.
Just open up the application, select the option to scan an image and then browse to where you saved that file. The application will extract both the name of the WiFi network as well as the password and both will be displayed in plain text on your device.
I hope this video is able to help anyone who may have forgotten the password to a saved WiFi network on Android. Let me know if this worked for you down in the comments section below. Or if you run into any issues with the smartphone or tablet that you own. Since each OEM has their own firmware and can have different menu options and features compared to what I've shown you here today.
I should still be able to help if you're able to share the smartphone brand, model number, and version of Android that you have running on the device.
