The Song
The story of the song goes something like this: It was about a battle between a visiting alien race and our human population, for control of the planet ( pretty prophetic, huh?)
Any who, the aliens visit our Earth bearing gifts, however they harbor a hidden, and evil agenda to lay waste to the human inhabitants and plunder the earth for its resources.
These Aliens are nothing more than parasites that move from planet to planet requiring a host to feed off. Once the last drop of blood has been spilled, and all resources are spent, they move on to the next.
But it wouldn't be a worthy battle if it just ended there, so just before our complete annihilation, we (humans) finally awaken to their plan and begin to resist, leading to the final battle where we as a species and as an earth collective triumph.
Good over Evil.

The Back Story
The Nazca Lines is a song that has taken over a decade to give birth to.
I wrote the first version of this song around 2011, but the song never got off the ground. In fact I shelved it, and with our first child on the way, I began playing Dad instead.
Then, last year, in July 2023, I began recording again, and whilst sifting through terabytes of recorded material & ideas, this song, The Nazca Lines was brought to my attention yet again. Not by me, but by one of my greatest friends and mentors Matt Spaninks.
I remember resisting the idea of recording this song, but Matt had other ideas. He finally convinced me it was a track worthy of being on the album (Yes, this is but one song of nine for my upcoming album).
For this session, I originally had tracked live drums, but as soon as I began recording bass & guitars, it made my soul purge.
I never realised I held so much hidden emotion in this song.
I immediately felt the cringe from that time all those years ago.
I didn't like a lot of things back then, hard times, friendship fall outs, and things were not exactly going my way. In particular, I felt like I had compromised way too much, especially on things like this song. My fear was still driving the bus to some degree in those days.
So, fast forward to re-recording this track in July 2023, and I was this close to launching the song once and for all out the window. But instead of doing so, I paused in meditation and I listened. I made my peace, and so decided at that moment to re-write the Nazca Lines the way it should have been done.
It's over double the length, jam-packed with twists & turns, but it truly captures what I failed to hold onto and capture way back when.
I am so proud to have my favourite Keyboard Maestro, Derek Sherinian play on this track, and the wizard, Forrester Savell who mixed and mastered the track.
Please enjoy!
Peace,
Rob
