Today I began I two day journey to try to find a photograph black bears in the forest. I had seen my first black bear of the year about a week ago which is later than usual, so I wanted to head out and see if I could located one to photograph. I love being able to find and photograph these amazing animals in the wild. I knew that during the spring time, they tend to hang out in the wet areas where skunk cabbage grows, which is one of their food this time of year. On the first day, I found evidence of bear activity as there was a lot of bear scat scattered among the skunk cabbage.
A few days later I went to a different area of the forest. I hiked all morning along the banks of a brook searching for these secretive animals. My search was rewarded around mid day when I found a family of black bears foraging in the forest. I was able to sit and watch them for hours as they foraged and slept. This was by far one of the best wildlife expereicens I have had and I hope you enjoy it!
