President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has approved the plan to acquire new multirole fighter jets as part of military modernisation efforts. Military chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. made the announcement during a briefing on July 4. He indicated that the Philippines is considering acquiring more advanced and capable warplanes. The US and Sweden are both reportedly vying for the contract, with the US promoting its F-16 fighter jets and Sweden offering its JAS 39 Gripen jets.
