A cyberattack targeting the systems that manage an American oil pipeline has raised the price of petrol on the futures market.
That could now push the price up for consumers across the United States.
Colonial Pipeline shut down its systems on Friday to stem the damage, and it could be several weeks before everything is back online.
The cyberattack was carried out by a criminal gang known as DarkSide, the FBI confirmed on Monday.
It is exactly the kind of attack that has worried cybersecurity experts.
Al Jazeera’s Patty Culhane reports from the US capital, Washington, DC.
