When the Tigers began being broadcast on radio in 1926, WWJ was their first flagship. Games would be split between WWJ and WXYZ in 1934, before moving over completely to WXYZ in 1943. The Tigers would go to WJLB-AM in 1945, back to WXYZ the next year, then back to WJLB the following season, then to WJBK in 1949.
Games would be split between WJBK and WXYZ in 1950, then move to WKMH in 1954. In 1960, games would be split between WKMH, WWJ and WJR, with WJR assuming the full-time flagship in 1965. Also known as ‘The Great Voice of the Great Lakes’, 50,000 watt clear-channel WJR would be the home of the Tigers until 2001, when Infinity Broadcasting grabbed the flagship rights and moved them to WXYT (AM), and would subsequently move to WXYT-FM in 2008.
