Scapular Stabilization - Serratus anterior - scapula protraction & Scapula retraction
Scapular stability is often overlooked when we look at strength, but it’s essential for any arm weight-bearing pose (arm balances, inversions, chaturangas). Have you ever heard a yoga teacher tell you (or someone else) to stop “winging” in plank pose? This is caused by not utilizing the Serratus anterior muscle. This muscle runs under the scapula along the ribs, and is responsible for scapular protraction. A simple way to work on noticing these muscles (proprioceptive awareness) or to strengthen them is to do a variety of push-up+ #shoulderinjuryprevention #shoulderstrength #yogatherapythursdays
