Based on the Vossloh/MAK G1206 design, the SNCF class BB 61000 was a French variant made as a stop-gap solution as the fleet was aging and newer Alstom design were not ready yet. The company rented them on a yearly basis from Angel Trains. They entered service in 2003 and were less then 10 years in the SNCF fleet, being replaced by the BB75000.
The model itself is very good looking. It is, in my opinion, above and beyond anything Piko made before that for the french market.
Let's start with the negative to get them out of the way. First, there is traction tires. Not as much of an issue on a diesel but they still are a wear item. Second, the cab is not very realistic as you can see in the video. Finally, the model is fragile as you can see, especially with the handrails.
All of that being said, the lighting is very good looking (I know I can't show that with my current setup). The livery is crisp and very good looking. The locomotive has a good weight and is very smooth at all speed. It is also very detailed (excluding the cab) with multiple seperately fitted parts all around.
I have 100s of locomotives in my collection. Let me know in the comments what type of loco or rolling stock you would like to see next.
