My upload of an orchestral selection from 'Business as Usual' seems to have been reasonably popular, so here are Vocal Gems from the same revue.
This is one of the best acoustic Columbia vocal gems recordings I've ever found. For its time, it is remarkably well-recorded and well-balanced, and the orchestral accompaniment (presumably conducted by Albert Ketelbey) is excellent. Frankly, it leaves for dead Victor's efforts of the period!
And then there is the music, which is excellent despite the war-related nature of the songs.
'Business as Usual' opened at the London Hippordrome on 16 November 1914 and ran for 295 performances.
I made this transfer from English Columbia 503.
