People have been asking for my thoughts on the fight, so here is a little more detailed response than just a 13 second clip:
.) This fight lasted 13 seconds, yet both men were bleeding by the end. Could you imagine if it lasted 5 rounds? Both of them would have been mangled! As most of you know, I watch fights not only for the entertainment value, but to study and learn from each fighter. No matter who won or lost, I think I speak for everyone when I say, "I just wish it had lasted 14 seconds or longer..."
.) McGregor definitely got into Aldo's head. 100%. This is the stuff that Muhammad Ali and Floyd Mayweather used to do. It throws your opponent off and makes them fight off of emotion. I'm not sure how many reading this have ever stepped into a ring or cage and fought in front of hundreds of people, but it's the most emotionally stimulating experience one can ever have. Now factor in it being one of the biggest MMA fights of all time. And finally, a crazy Irishman trying to convince you he's the one that will kill you, while millions of fans echo him on social media. Aldo seemed anxious, shaking his left hand more than usual, and had little-to-no head movement.
.) There were zero angles created in this fight. It could have taken place on a skinny bridge. Only in-and-out movement. When you're stepping in (especially on a southpaw) you can't walk straight forward. Conor, on the back pedal, was able to perfectly time and aim his counter left (though still got hit with the hook), and put Aldo to sleep. Just goes to show that the aggressor isn't always the winner, and you CAN knock someone out while moving backwards. The more aggressive they are, the harder they will run into your punch!
.) My prediction couldn't have been more wrong, lol. Conor was well-spoken and extremely respectful after the fight. He's great for the sport, and earned that belt. His confidence is something to appreciate, if you truly think about it. Nobody dislikes a humble person, but understand that a champion MUST radiate confidence. For example, can you think of any champion fighters, old or new, that ever said, "Yeah, I-I-I think I can with this fight..." No, they all KNOW they will win.
.) I'd love to see Frankie Edgar vs Conor Mcgregor next! How about you?
