For our video, we decided to address the issue surrounding public perceptions of interior design. To achieve this, we created a public art installation inspired by Candy Chang’s “Before I die I want to...”installation. We hoped this installation would give student designers the opportunity to express several misconceptions they have experienced from the public. The students not only shared their insights on issues of public perception, but also began to focus on the collaborative and multidisciplinary aspects of interior design. We used the students’ input to further shape the concept of our video. Our narrative focuses on aspects such as the design process, codes, and the collaborative work with other professions to create cohesive built environments. We hope that through this video we can help reshape public perception of interior design, and raise awareness of its value to society.
