Cole Ryska pulls an unexpected wheelstand and smacks the wall in his nitrous big block Chevy Nova while his dad watches the action unfold. The 15 year old driver and his father are diehard drag racers, and they were running 5.30's in the eighth mile in the midday heat. When it came time for eliminations, the boys turned up the nitrous on the budget-built Nova to take on the competition and it made for a crazy pass.
The Nova was running in the Limited Street category at the monthly heads up race at Brainerd Motorsports Park in Ringgold, Georgia. The race is part of the Southern Drag Radial Association series, and the class requires a 275/60R15 drag radial or 28x10.5-inch slick. A host of other rules keeps the competition tight among nitrous, blower and turbo cars, and elapsed times typically range from 4.80 to 5.30. Cole's car was a bit of an underdog in this field of cars, but that didn't keep them from going for it!
Racing against eventual class winner Danny Davis, they knew it was time to give the 502ci big block Chevy all the nitrous. The result was an incredible wheelie, which sent Cole toward the wall. He stayed in the throttle and brushed against the wall, finally letting out of the gas after making contact. The crash could've been much worse, but Cole kept his composure, and we're sure he'll be back to redeem himself soon.
