Mother 3 is a game I hold very near and dear to my heart. It's one of my favorite JRPGs and every element, from the art direction, the gameplay and the story, is wonderfully crafted and thoughtfully designed. Chief among these is the soundtrack, composed by Shogo Sakai. It blends rock 'n' roll, symphonic, latin, jazz and a myriad of other genres to create a lengthy and memorable soundscape to compliment the story, visuals and gameplay.
For the longest time, I've thought about how it would sound if the soundtrack were to appear on a modern remake/remaster of the game. Of course, there are albums like Mother 3+ and Mother 3i that give us amazing arrangements and remixes of the tracks, and a myriad of other projects looking to do the same. But I wanted to take a shot at it. With my sample libraries, mixing tools and well as my skills in arrangements and remixes, I have attempted such an endeavor. To lighten my load, I decided that not all the tracks will be Remastered, just the standouts from various sections and chapters of the game. This is my way of paying tribute to Shogo Sakai's wonderful soundtrack and compositions, and to Shigesato Itoi, HAL Laboratories and Brownie Brown for developing such a treasure of a game. I hope you enjoy.
"Alec's Log House" and the Mother 3 Soundtrack is composed by Shogo Sakai.
Note: The swap of the lead to a Harmonica was a relatively recent change. Initially it was a whistle to get the airy feel of the original, but the whistle didn't sound good enough on it's own to justify being a lead. So I swapped it out to a Harmonica to keep that warm, folksy feeling of the original. Also, this is where we hear the first of the "Room" melodic motifs Sakai composed for this soundtrack. The next track is where we hear the first of the "Love Theme". Stay tuned for that!
