Clinical Interests: Endocrine hypertension, electrolyte disorders, calcium disorders, metabolic bone disease and disorders of water metabolism.
Dr. Grekin is a Professor of Internal Medicine in the Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes (MEND) Division. He received bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Michigan. His residency training was in Internal Medicine at Tufts University and his fellowship training was completed in Endocrinology at Boston University. He served two years in the United States Air Force and in 1974 joined the faculty of the University of Michigan.
Dr. Grekin's research interests are hormonal and metabolic regulation of blood pressure. His research has focused on the regulation of aldosterone and atrial natriuretic factor, two hormones that are important regulators of the vascular system. He has explored the role of free fatty acids as regulators of blood pressure.
Dr. Grekin's clinical interests focus on disorders of salt and water metabolism, disorders of calcium metabolism and metabolic bone disease.
Dr. Grekin presently serves as the Director of the first two years of the Medical School curriculum. He also serves as Associate Chief of Staff for Research at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System.
