History is a big fascination here in the Ozarks -- and the blog "Ozarks Alive" held its first meetup today.
The series focuses on history in the area to keep the appreciation for Ozarks culture alive. Today, Ozarks Alive founder Kaitlyn McConnell spoke on the importance of rural stores around the community. McConnel told us why these stores are so important to keep that history alive even today.
"There's a lot of character, there's a lot of nostalgia to these stores," McConnel said. "People remember maybe going with their parents or grandparents to these stores and getting soda and pop and just the feelings that they have connected with those I think really last with people but there's also that functionality part that these stores were so key to keeping people connected and the resources that they weren't able to grow or create themselves."
The Ozarks Alive meetups happen every three months.
