Am I wrong for giving my nieces the same gifts?🤔🎁
I am an 18-year-old female. I thought I was being a thoughtful aunt by baking Christmas cookies for my nieces, but now I'm in hot water with my family. Here’s what happened: for Christmas, I made two identical boxes of butter cookies with lemon icing for my nieces, Mia, who is 9 years old, and Zoe, who is 6 years old. Each girl got 12 cookies shaped like things from The 12 Days of Christmas song. Everyone seemed to love them, except Mia. At lunch, Mia's mother pulled me aside. She told me Mia was upset because she got the same amount of cookies as her younger cousin, Zoe. Apparently, Mia always thought of me as her favorite aunt and felt hurt that I didn't treat her special by giving her more cookies. Some context: I'm a broke college student on break, spending Christmas with my family—parents, two sisters and their husbands, one brother, and two nieces. We adults agreed to only give gifts to the kids to reduce financial stress. Being okay at baking, I decided to give homemade treats for my first Christmas as an adult. I also baked a batch of plain cookies for the whole family to share, which everyone said were good, but the drama is about the special boxes for the girls.
