Karch Kiraly, head coach of the U.S. women's national team and a 3-time Olympic gold medalist, talks here about how hitting is trained in the national team gym. One constant in USA drills is that players always hit against a block to keep things game-like.
Kiraly highlights certain keys to the hitting approach, including telling players to start small and slow before pushing and exploding into the third step. As a training tool, he sometimes uses tape to mark where hitters should plant their steps. He also talks about the timing of steps for different attacks and stresses the important of good eyes.
