Is this the best walk in Snowdonia?! 🤔 Or in Wales for that matter! I would argue so! The Watkin path is an amazing route up to the peak of Snowdon with very diverse scenery along the way 🤩
At the beginning you walk through a magical old forest. It's the kind of place where fairies and pixies wouldn't look out of place. Lush green flora and only the sound of birdsong, screaming sheep, cows moo'ing and your own footsteps ☺️
After a while the trees become less and the views open up, with amazing waterfalls and natural pools along the way. That's what this hiking route is renowned for.
Then the hike becomes less 'cute'. The towering mountain peaks become visible in the distance and the closer you get, the more intimidating they become, yet beautiful in their own, rugged way 💪🏽💕
After passing some old mining ruins the steep ascent begins. From here to the summit it's pretty steep for the duration with a little plateau before the final, and steepest section of the hike. With the stone loose under your feet and having to scramble a little it's a good old test for the legs! 🥵😁
After a little time spent on the summit of Snowdon I hiked down the South Ridge. From here you get amazing views of the hike you've just done and also over to the North West coast of Wales. I joined back up with the Watkin path from here and returned back to where I begun the hike.
I would HIGHLY recommend this route. For scenery I think it's on of my favourite's here in Snowdonia 😍🥰
