During our 17-day excursion to Guatemala, we spent four full days on Lake Atitlan. The drive was only 2.5 hours from Antigua, where we had just spent a super jam packed, yet incredible, week.

If you have a lot of time, spend AT LEAST a week here. The lake is surrounded by 12 villages, each unique and worthy of exploration.

The easiest way we found to get around the lake is by lancha (boat). It's about 25 quetzals per person (about $3 USD) one way and takes about 20-40 minutes depending on the village you're wanting to go to.

We also spent a day exploring by paddle board, which was incredibly fun as well as exhausting.

If you get the chance to hike up Indian Nose at sunrise, do it! Sunrise hikes always feel not worth it when you first wake up, but SO worth it once you've reached the top!
