Scientists from QBI UCSF, University College London and QCRG published a new study describing how specific mutations of the B.1.1.7 U.K. coronavirus strain increase the transmissibility, enhance efficiency of host invasion, inhibit host immune response and possibly increase mortality.
This work, led by Nevan Krogan, Greg Towers and Clare Jolly, sheds light on how the virus is mutating to evade our defense mechanisms and points to new therapeutic strategies for this and new variants that will emerge.
