🇬🇧 Parliament recalled today to discuss the situation in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 It's been a difficult day's debate on a very concerning situation. I raised my fears for the future for women in Kabul and beyond and the legitimate fears they must have now.

During the statement we heard that the only reason our brave troops, diplomats, and civil servants are in Kabul is to check and process people who have helped us or need our help.

We are supporting as many Afghans as possible - under the current ARAP programme we have already relocated 2,052 Afghans with a further 2,000 applications completed and many more being processed.

In addition, the PM set out the Government’s plans to support an additional Resettlement Scheme, one of the most generous schemes in our country’s history. This will see 5,000 Afghan nationals, British Passport holders and HM government workers welcomed to the UK, with a further 15,000 in the longer term.

I am very grateful for the brave men and women risking their lives to make this process happen.

I also remember the sacrifices of those who have served there over the last 20 years, including those in South Ribble. They all should hold their head up high for what they did and achieved
