(7 Oct 2016) Romania on Friday officially unveiled the first six of twelve F-16 fighter jets purchased from Portugal under a 628 million euro (700 million US dollar) contract signed in 2013.
Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos attended the ceremony and said the government was committed to expanding the acquisition programme to another squadron in a deal that will see another 12 aircraft join the Romanian Air Force.
The F-16s will be based in Borcea, southeastern Romania, close to the Black Sea Coast.
The next three aircraft will be delivered at the end of this year, with the last ones to arrive at the end of 2017.
