A 36-year-old woman pleaded not guilty today to charges that she was drunk when she drove her car onto a sidewalk in Dorchester Tuesday afternoon, killing a 7-year-old girl and seriously injuring the girl's mother.
Olivia Mora of Dorchester was arraigned on charges that included motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury. The crash killed Brianna Rosales and injured her mother, 26-year-old Glendalee Alvarado.
Mora was ordered held without bail. Her next court appearance is slated for Jan. 3.
A prosecutor said in Dorchester District Court that police detected the odor of alcohol on Mora's breath after the crash and Mora failed three field sobriety tests before refusing a chemical breath test. Police sought a warrant to take a blood test; the analysis isn't complete yet.
Assistant Suffolk District Attorney Masai King said Mora gave several different addresses when she was questioned after the accident.
Mora allegedly told police her car had "terrible tires" and she had lost traction — and control — of her car.
According to a police report filed in court, "She continuously denied having had anything alcoholic to drink, stating that her last drink was at approximately 10 p.m. the previous night."
Mora, a 2002 graduate of Babson College, is the mother of a 3-year-old. She has one felony conviction on her record, her defense attorney said.
The attorney argued that if Mora were held without bail, it would cause "extensive" hardship to her family and that Mora had roots in the area that would keep her from fleeing.
