DC Ops on the PM&C - EPISODE V, Season 2
DC (Direct Current) is the "Unplugged" version of modern DCC (Digital Command Control) model railroading. Old school, baby. And so it is that some of us who harken back to a time when that's all there was - up until ~1990 - still accommodate such equipment. My layout is double-track mainline, the outer loop exclusively DCC, the inner loop switchable between DCC and DC.
In this breath-taking, heart-stopping, hard-driving action-packed thriller we run for the very first time a Bachmann Spectrum Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) powered car, called a speeder in RR lingo, baby, pulling its complement of tool and crane cars after several hours making repairs to first the crane (the boom was not attached and the cables were so screwed up they had to be replaced completely), then the speeder. It moved and worked, but one of the power pickup shoes was bent, not making contact, and on something this tiny you REALLY need all the pickup possible - trust me. It was also balky, and did not run at all smoothly. That was all remedied easily enough with some disassembly, cleaning, adjusting, and a dab of Vaseline here and there.
Here are the results, FIRST TIME OUT :) YEAY! \(^_^)/ I chose some vintage tunes to go with, hit the volume and give us a "LIKE".
