Note: ‼️ These #Lyrics ARE NOT #AuthenticYoruba 🇳🇬language, but #NewWorld #criollo #AfroCuban🇨🇺 #Yoruba.
I am a firm believer that if you know what your direct ancestral and cultural lineage is that your ancestors in spirit guides will appreciate you playing the songs of that culture, and even though this is a New World Yoruba-based song, The song can be used for anyone from beginners to advanced-level ancestor practitioners and anyone that just wants to honor your ancestors in songs and requires no initiation to sing this.
This is a beginner level song, but a common song that you will hear at ceremonies because the ancestors must always be honored first before the Deities!
You do not even have to practice African spiritual tradition to utilize this song. It is pretty easy to learn and even the children can learn for special events such as black history month, Kwanzaa, and any other time where ancestors need and require reverence.
The original song does not sound like this version due to the fact that a special drum called Bataa is used that trained Bataa drummers play, which is a ceremonial drum utilized in ancestor and Orisha ceremonies.
Enjoy!

Here are the words and the link to hear what the original song sounds like to the Bataa drums and proper call and response.
