Today on the lathe we are making the first attempt at turning a "4 corner" bowl. This piece was turned from a decent sized chunk of cherry wood found in a dumpster with minimal checking on the endgrain. I decided to turn it anyway and see what would happen. Spoiler the bowl stayed together! This piece was turned using mainly carbide turning tools and a little bit of skew as a scraper to clean up a few toolmarks. In this video Ive decided to go ahead and skip the sanding process since no one wants to see that anyway! In the end this piece came out beautifully and is 100% food safe ready to use for snacks or whatever you may choose!
Side note: Anytime I have a cloth near the lathe and spinning objects especially those with wings on them you will never see me wrapping the cloth, towel, steel wool or even sandpaper around my fingers. This practice is not fool proof and can still lead to injury so please proceed with caution in your adventures if you choose to attempt anything like this.
