In this very short update, I discuss the results of having performed post-hardening hedge pruning and partial defoliation of six bloodwood Japanese Maples. I performed partial defoliation to varying degrees of severity to learn how the trees react to varying amount of defoliation. Having performed a partial defoliation and not a total defoliation I have the opportunity to perform a second partial defoliation this season between 6 and 8 weeks after the first partial defoliation.
