In this week's episode we take a look at the new Evans UV Emad bass drum head. This head is an extension of the very popular UV1 line of tom and snare heads. This 10 mil, one ply head features the same UV coating as its counterparts as well as the EMAD control ring. I have been using EMAD bass drum heads for many years and have been anticipating the arrival of this new head from Evans. I got to use this head on several different gigs before releasing this review. One outside gig as well as a gig in a medium size club with a hefty sound system. I found this head quite up to the challenge of replacing my regular EMAD. I normally use a clear EMAD and was quite pleased with this coated head even though the tone can be different. I did not feel as though I lost any attack switching to a coated head, the general tone was nice and fat. Switching from clear to coated can take some getting use to because coated heads tend to be a little warmer and rounder than clear. All in all this is a great feeling and sounding head and definitely deserves a look if you are interested in a different sound or just switching heads and want to see what the UV bass drum heads are all about.
