A nanoparticle is a small particle that ranges between 1 to 100 nm in size. Nanoparticles have been widely used to deliver drugs, polypeptides, proteins, vaccines, nucleic acids, and genes. A number of medicinal and cosmetic nanoparticle-based products are currently on the market.
There are a number of different types of nanoparticles being tested including:
Lipid-Based nanoparticles such as Liposomes
Polymer-based nanoparticles such as nanospheres
Inorganic nanoparticles such as Silver (Ag) and Gold (Au) nanoparticles
Although nanoparticle-based products have been used for various purposes such as enhanced drug delivery, and reduced side effects, there are still some limitations of nanotechnology. Watch the video to learn more.
