The mobile phone footage from the alpine French city of Annecy is deeply shocking - and shows the suspect attacking children - some in pushchairs - apparently at random.
Four are in a serious condition tonight after the attack at 9.30 this morning.
Dozens of other young children are receiving support for the trauma.
The man wielding the knife was arrested at the scene.
