Even in affluent societies, people often don't understand that placing your hands under running water is not how you wash your hands. Handwashing is a form of behaviour that is established through childhood experiences, parenting and knowledge. In this intriguing talk, Pawankumar Patil, a public health scientist, shows us how it's done and goes on to talk about his work on Sanitation in rural parts of India. Even without really being an expert, this youthful and warm doctor has managed to find expert solutions to problems and promises that you can do the same too.
Dr. Pawankumar Patil is an artist, a physician and a public health scientist. He launched the ‘Nirmal hand-washing program’ that revolutionized the practice of hand-washing in a local community. Dr. Patil is now working on many more projects and being recognised by the World Health Organisation for his work in his field. He believes that every individual is a unique combination of dreams, potential, fears and drives and while facilitating positive transformation, it is imperative to understand the individuals and communities from all these dimensions.
