On 15 June 2015, ESA's Integral and NASA's Swift satellites detected an outburst of high-energy X-rays from V404 Cygni, a binary system that contains a black hole. A stream of gas from a star, much like the Sun, flows toward the 10 solar mass black hole. Every couple of decades, the gas rushes inward and the black hole becomes an X-ray nova.
