Hosted by Kirkcudbright Galleries
On the 18th of May, Kirkcudbright Galleries was proud to host a talk with Steven Dey, founder of ThinkSee3D. He was telling us all about his role in the replica creation of the Galloway Hoard Vessel.
Buried at the beginning of the 10th century in Dumfries and Galloway, the Hoard lay undisturbed for a thousand years before being discovered by a metal detectorist in September 2014. This incredible find brings together the richest collection of rare and unique Viking-age objects ever found in Britain or Ireland.
Participants in the Zoom call were invited to ask questions about Steven’s work, these were posed by the event facilitator Shona Burns, who is an Arts Officer at Kirkcudbright Galleries. This events programme was sponsored by Art Fund, Garfield Weston Foundation and Museums Galleries Scotland. Ongoing research into the Galloway Hoard is made possible thanks to a partnership with the University of Glasgow and funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
You can see the Hoard in person at The Galloway Hoard: Viking-age Treasure, a free exhibition currently open at Kirkcudbright Galleries until 10th July 2022. This exhibition is in collaboration with the National Museums Scotland, with support from The Scottish Government.
