Album for the Young, also called Children’s Album, Op. 39, is a collection of 24 short piano pieces composed by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840 - 1893) in 1878.

German composer Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856) had already composed a collection of 43 short piano pieces of the same title back in 1848, and Tchaikovsky was inspired, some 30 years later, to also make a small contribution to the stock of children’s musical literature.

Today, Tchaikovsky’s original manuscript score of all 24 pieces of Album for the Young is preserved in the Glinka National Museum Consortium of Musical Culture in Moscow.

This is the 18th piece of the collection. Its marching tempo and its joyful melody blend together so perfectly.
