For this jazzy first-recorded version of the 1928 Gershwin composition (issued over four 12-inch 78 sides), Victor Music Director Shilkret’s “Victor Symphony Orchestra” actually consisted of musicians drawn from members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Although George Gershwin is prominently credited on the label, his only contribution here as a performer was a brief celeste solo.
