Steffi Graf and Serena Williams have won 45 Grand slam titles in total. They played twice in 1999 (Sydney and Indian Wells). Both matches went to three sets. Steffi Graf and Serena Williams are considered to be the greatest female players in tennis history. Two months after their match in Sydney, Graf won the French Open, the last of her 22 Slams.

The Serena Williams 1999 season was her breakthrough season, winning her first career title at the Open Gaz de France and winning her first slam at the US Open.

“Steffi’s game matches up well with Serena’s,” former No. 1 Chris Evert says. “She was also extremely mentally tough and could cover the court as well as, if not better than, Serena.”
