In addition to the direct sponsorship of the premier orchestra, Deutsche Bank also made possible an unprecedented project in classical music launched at the beginning of 2009, one that allows the world to cross national and social boundaries and come closer together through music: the Digital Concert Hall. Concerts of the Berliner Philharmoniker can now be viewed in brilliant picture and high sound quality around the globe at any time via the Internet. Sir Simon Rattle: "we have some angels in the form of the Deutsche Bank who have really had the vision to give us the seed money to make this start. They've been our collaborators for many, many years. The reason we're able to do such wideranging education programmes for instance is entirely to do with Deutsche Bank. Without them it would be unthinkable. Frankly, without Deutsche Bank this project would also be unthinkable. Once again, they are helping to propel us into the future."
