When is a gum graft needed? How is it done?
3d video of Clínica Médico Dental Pardiñas ([ Ссылка ]) on the realization of a periodontal plastic surgery with a coronally advanced flap, one of the techniques to treat receding gums.
To perform this, the size of the recession is first measured, that will indicate the type of procedure to be followed. Next, the type of incisions is designed to allow mobilizing part of the gingiva from a donor area, and the flap is released to eliminate tensions and so it can be sutured passively in a more coronal position, thus covering the gum recession.
After that, the recipient area where the recession is located is prepared.
Finally the gum from the donor area is mobilized and repositioned suturing it in a new position. This flap will settle and mature in this new position.
Another option would be to place a connective tissue or biomaterial graft in the area of the recession, which will be covered with the flap stured coronally and passively. This graft will mature and in addition to covering the recession it will generate a greater volume of gingiva in that area.
