Researchers at MIT used a Phantom Ultrahigh-speed camera to study how spaghetti snaps in order to build a machine that would break a spaghetti noodle into only two pieces. By documenting how cascading fractures occur researchers were able to shed light on how building columns, bones, and even nanotubes might respond to extreme stresses.
