This video series is a project created by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Division of Pulmonary Medicine to educate health professionals about airway clearance techniques in cystic fibrosis care. This video walks viewers through the use of the MetaNeb. This is a 360 video, meaning you should use virtual reality goggles for optimal viewing and can move your mouse around the screen to see different angles.
o Perform four cycles of 2 ½ minutes CPEP and 2 ½ minutes CHFO modes, alternating cycles of CPEP and CHFI. This will be a total of 10 minutes. (2 ½ min CPEP with Aerosol 2 ½ min CHFO with Aerosol 2 ½ min CPEP with Aerosol 2 ½ min CHFO with Aerosol)
Tips:
o Check for chest wiggle. Sometimes children can block the mouth piece with their tongue, which blocks air flow. Seeing a chest wiggle will confirm nothing is blocked.
o Make sure cheeks are firm, don’t allow them to flutter.
o While this is an effective form of airway clearance, it is also fairly aggressive. Sometimes children have to work up to full protocol (full time).
