Watercolour Painting for Beginners: Dragonfly [My Art Journey - Episode 15]
Hey guys, this is Kaz. I’m going to be painting watercolor dragonfly today.
Dragonflies are insects with long segmented abdomen, transparent wings and large compound eyes.
Despite having 6 legs, the dragonfly doesn’t walk very well but they are great flyers.
A dragonfly’s scientific name is Odonta. Other names for dragonflies are old glassy in China and water dipper in England.
There are about 5000 different species of dragonflies worldwide and they live in warm climates and near water sources.
A dragonfly can move at an amazing 45 miles an hour. It can hover like a helicopter, fly backwards like a hummingbird, fly straight up, down and on either side.
A dragonfly only flaps its wings at a mere 30 times a beat while a bee flaps its wings 300 times per second.
A dragonfly’s eyes have approximately 30,00 lenses. Although, a dragonfly can see all they way around it, they actually don’t see the details very well compared to human that has only one lens and sees better than a dragonfly. However, the human eyes are limited to only seeing the front and the side of them.
Dragonflies have huge stingers that some people are allergic to their stings and may die.
A dragonfly can live anywhere from six months to six years. However, a dragonfly normally lives most of its life as a nymph or an immature.
It flies only for a fraction of its life and usually not more than a few months. An adult dragonfly does it all in these few months and leaves nothing to be desired. This style of life symbolizes and exemplifies the virtue of living in the moment and living life to the fullest.

Introduction:
Hey guys, this is Kaz. I’m going to be painting watercolor dragonfly today.
The word Dragonfly came from a myth that Dragonflies were once Dragons.
Dragonfly symbolises change from the perspective of self realisation that has its source in mental and emotional maturity and deeper understanding of life.
