Allan cycles to work and "walks the talk" of healthy living as a rural family doctor.
After starting his career in his hometown of Carberry, Manitoba, Allan later practiced as an anesthetist and emergency room physician in Brandon before moving to Hamiota In 1987 where he continues with rural family practice.
Allan has served as Chief of Staff at the Hamiota District Health Centre, and a committee member of the Assiniboine Regional Health Authority where he pursues his special interest in diabetes prevention and treatment for nearby First Nations communities. He has also chaired several committees of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
Allan supports his local Heritage Arts Centre, hockey and baseball teams, and the Canadian Foodgrains Bank for supplies to third world countries.
He and his wife Yolanda are very proud of their three children -- Tamara, Matthew and Monique -- and describe their three grandchildren as their greatest achievement. Allan's leisure pursuits include sheep farming, woodworking and piano.
"As a rural family doctor, my family and I have had the amazing privilege of serving, living in, and being an integral part of, two wonderful prairie farming communities that have always felt like home since they are close to the very farm where I was raised."
